Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Foundation RoomJoin us for a discussion of Betsy Ross and the Making of America by Marla Miller.
Registration is recommended. Recommended for adults. Synopsis: The creation of the first American flag and the story of Betsy Ross are inseparable, but few people know much about Ross beyond the iconic story. Biographer Marla Miller portrays a Philadelphia businesswoman whose life illuminates the lives of many of her contemporaries in revolutionary America. Whether Ross actually met with George Washington and created that first flag cannot be known for certain, but this biography tells us much more about Ross herself. If you're looking for a vivid account of women and men who continued their workaday lives while also supporting the creation of a new government in a new land, this "distinct and persuasive biography" (Library Journal) is for you.
